Here is a picture of our pastel het red axanthic. This picture was taken outside with a het red axanthic and a normal for comparison.

Wow, nice. Reminds me of a pewter.

Mark,

I honestly don't see it... not even in the one you're calling a "het red." I was told the original pair of het reds that were sold to Corey were from two black-backs the Snake Keeper bred together. The male was then sold and was supposedly bought back years later. I have heard nothing about the where abouts of the original female. Perhaps one was a het red and the other was not. I think the original gene that the snakekeeper had may have been lost. The entire story behind this Snakekeeper line is just too questionable. Corey himself never felt that they were the real thing yet they were still sold as het reds. I think you may have a genetic black-back, but no het red. I would be very surprised to see a Red Axanthic produced from that line and until someone does, I think it is a bit premature to label them as het reds.

And just for the record, I have had several positive business interactios with Eden Snakes and this is not meant as an attack. I just think there are far too many unanswered questions with this snake keeper line.

My orginal het red that I bought from Ralph pictured below.

And I agree 100%. I think the baby looks beautiful and is a very nice black back pastel but until their is a red axanthic (wich I don't think will happen) produced from that line I don't think they should be called het red axanthics. They look very different.

I actually think there is a good shot of producing red's from the animals he has. Look at that pastel het red! You're going to tell me that doesn't resemble any other pastel het red's you've seen?
And, I can see your point on not calling it a het red until it produces a red axanthic, but even if it doesn't pan out what he has is obviously a co-dom or dom trait. How could it produce a pastel cross like that if it wasn't because I think we can all agree that isn't just a pastel in that picture.

Absolutely I think it is a dominant trait. It is a genetic black back. I have a line of them, their is no super so far and I look forward to producing pastel black backs next year. It isn't the same as a het red and they are no where near the cost of a het red, if I had paid the price of a het red only to get a genetic black back that could be had for 1/10th the cost I'd be mad!! It would be like buying het caramel albino's and only recieving het albinos . Apples and oranges man.

Guess these "het reds" or black backs are kinda like true granites. Just seem like a nice normal but when ya breed it with your pastel and get these killer crosses you realize you have a true morph on your hands.

Awesome blushing on the head and dorsal area. Unfortunately I do see some yellow where there should not be any. When I saw the pics of them in shed they really did look like they would shed and look identical to what Corey produced. I was wrong.
Very nice looking snake either way.
