Yellow's are pipping!!

BillyBoy Jul 29, 2006 02:21 PM

Yippee!! My first ever rat snake eggs just started pipping this morning. There are two little noses sticking out and one that is still slitting the egg. Eight more haven't started yet. 42 days incubation at about 85-89 on average (temp varies a bit in my snake room). Will get some pics once they're all out.

Also, the mom dropped 8 hard slugs a couple of days ago. Is this normal? She tore up the cage again a few days ago, but since she was with the male only the one time, I didn't think anything of it. I was cleaning her cage out this morning and found the slugs - all yellow and hard like plastic, but perfectly formed, albeit a little small. Mom seems fine and hasn't missed a meal (or a defecation!) since she laid on June 10th. I'm new to egg-bearers, so is this normal?

Thanks,
Billy
