Generally what I do with wild caught lizards is to let them have about a month to settle in as long as there are no signs that they are going down hill and then treat them. When a wild caught lizard first arrives its stressed out to some degree by being in a new place, so the parasite levels often increase. Giving the lizard time to settle in allows the parasite levels to decrease again.
The treatment consists of taking a fecal sample to the vet to determine what (if any) parasite the lizard has. Then, the appropriate medicine and dosage can be given that will kill that parasite.
If you shotgun it (just medicate them with the normal medicine) you might be treating them when they don't need it or you may not be killing off all the parasites that they have or you may be treating for the wrong parasite.
