Which is better?

ReptilesRampant Jul 29, 2006 09:07 PM

I have a friend who would really like one of my cornsnake babies. She has never owned snakes before, and I was wondering which sex would be better for her to start with. Are there any disadvantages to owning one sex or another as a pet (males not eating, females cycling and laying slugs). Is one sex more friendly than the other? Or should I just pick out the prettiest, calmest one and stop worrying ? Thanks for reading.

I would just pick out a nice one that eats well and all that jazz. I guess I would say my male is easier then my female only because she doesn't eat when shes getting ready to lay. My male always eats, and will take seconds if given the opportunity. I have never had my male refuse a meal. Could just be temperments of this pair though as I don't have a wide collection.

I agree with the last post. Pick out the biggest, strongest, best feeding snake out of the bunch. It is always best to start with a strong snake, especially for a beginner.

Generally the only thing that I can think of and make sure I tell people, is that males go for periods of not eating during breeding season, even if never introduced to a female.
Other than that, eat snake will have its own personality, temperment
