Dumerils advice

pwahrn Jul 30, 2006 11:41 AM

Greetings everybody. A buddy of mine is moving and needs to get rid of his female dumerils boa. She is FREE with a 6ft costum made enclosure. I'm still researching this species before I say yes or no.

But I need your help. Specifically from people that are experienced with this snake. Any ups or downs in your experience?

His snake is almost 7 feet. She's eating large frozen rats and has a really docile temperment. So far everything sounds/looks good.

I just need any pointers or feedback.

Thanks!

Dumerils boas are really easy to work with. I kept mine with just a heat pad. I used newspaper as a substrate and they did well. They are very gentle and easy going snakes. The babies I had were picky preferring live mice and only live mice. They switched out of that in about 2 years and started taking f/t. Then they never looked back. In short they are wonderful docile snakes that are very easy to keep. You will be very happy with them.

After you get them feeding which can sometimes be really aggravating, they're really tanks. Easy to feed and care for, they do well under normal conditions and (again, after you establish them on feed) seem to be even hardier than colombians. They seem to be more forgiving when it comes to lower temps as well.

As others have said, they are a great boa. My male is very gentle and relaxed, I've never had a feeding problem with him -I've had him since he was apprx 2 months old and he eats frozen thawed rats.

They are a beautiful and very natural looking boa. Their care is fairly simple, although it can sometimes be hard to find good info about them on the web.

If you don't want her, send your friend my way -I've been looking for a girlfriend for my male.
