Kingsnake egg question???

mikeyburnss Jul 30, 2006 01:23 PM

I have posted with this problem b4, I have several cal. king eggs in a hova bator, they are at 82-83 deg. The problem I am having is that the eggs still have slight dents in them.... I put a damp paper towel over them for 2-3 days and it helped some. Is there anything else I can do to help this problem. Are the eggs still good?

If they aren't moldy and smelly, they are probably still good.

I wouldn't count on them being bad. I thought this GBK egg was rotten. Another egg was real translucent orange on one end, but they all hatched just fine.

No mold or smell yet, they have been incubating for close to two wks now. The only thing that looks off is the slight dents and on two of the eggs there is a drak spot. Thanks for the replys

One of my alligator lizard eggs has a dark spot on the bottom - I noticed it about a week ago. The rest of the egg though is still bright white and the dark spot hasn't grown, and no mold.

One of the first clutches of alligator lizard eggs I ever had as a kid, they all caved in with about week left, and I thought they were all dead. I took them away from the warmth but I didn't toss them.

A week later there was a baby lizard on my wall. All of the eggs had hatched, each and every one of them - I only found two out of ten of the babies.

Anyway, don't give up until it is clearly rotten.

Turn your heat down to 81-82, and double check the temp guage with another one. Eggs will dent when there to warm or too close to the heat element. Keep your humidity up. Not to worry, they will be the first to hatch usually.
You say you have a hova bator, is that the one with the fan built in? If it is it might be keeping your humidity down, disconnect it if you can. you can also plug off a few of the vents on top of your box to keep humid. up.

good luck; Bob

It is the hova bator without the fan. I will try to block off a few holes and turn the heat down some. It does look like the humidity is a bit on the low side, there is a tiny bit of moisture on the top of the plastic but that is it, should there be more? I will definitely not give up on the eggs. Thanks again for all your great replys.

>> It does look like the humidity is a bit on the low side, there is a tiny bit of moisture on the top of the plastic but that is it,----(you don't want the moisture to form drops and drip on the eggs, but forming on the plastic is ok, polk holes in the plastic if you need to. I use the plastic for more of a heat barrier. The heating element radiates dry heat. The plastic is just a barrier between the egg and heat element.)
>>should there be more? ----- (it sound like their OK.)

Your welcome, and good luck; Bob
