Anybody try feeding dry food only?

tas Jul 31, 2006 12:09 AM

First off, let me start by saying hello to everbody. I will be finally getting my first breaded dragon after years of thinking about it. Ohhh happy day!!

I do have a question about feeding though. Has anybody had any luck with feeding T-Rex Bearded Dragon Dry Formula only, to their beardies? Or any other dry food only diet. It would be great if worked well, only feeding live food every once in a while as a treat. Let me know your thoughts on these products. Thanks guys

WEll if you buy an adult than great but if it is a baby it wont they need the insects if you only feed him/her dry food they could die
or wont gro to proper sice and it could get sick so As an owner of many Dragons i would like to say HELL NO!.

if you cant aford to get crikets than dont get the dragon just get a snake you only feed them once a week when their babys and as adult every two or three weeks

although the dry pellets are really good for them your dragon needs the protein source from the insects. crickets are the most popular of course, but roaches are becoming big now. i am switching to them myself when i get my roaches breeding more. 1 roach is equal to about 10 crickets. they are a bit more expensiive but worth it. www.blaberus.com link to breeder.

babies need 90% crickets and 10% greens. this changes as they get older. at about 6 months is should be about 60/40, 9 months 50/50 and at a year or so 90% veggies and greens 10% crickets.

this is a very good site to look for nutrional facts on different foods. what is worth feeding and what is not.

I would have to agree that as much as beardies are a blast and i love all of mine...a snake is alot easier and cheaper to deal with...my jungle carpet eats only once a week and often times you can switch them to frozed where bulk buying is possible...just a suggestion...

it isn't a good ideal to feed exclusively dry food to bearded dragons. Many babies won't eat it to start off with, it can also dehydrate them (all that dry food need more moisture in the diet). Dry food is great as a suppliment to crickets and greens to ensure a more balanced diet but I do not recommend feeding it exclusively.

Crickets, small silkworms (for babies), butterworms, roaches and other good insect feeders (except for mealworms, wax works and superworms (though supers are fine as a treat for adult dragons) should be offered. Variety in insects is just as good as a variety of greens as the dragon gets older.
