Rats needed in So-Cal...having trouble, please help!

mnlobrien Aug 03, 2003 12:29 PM

I recently moved from Virginia to Southern California. I am having some trouble locating a rodent breeder that can provide the quantities they claim or that I need. I am looking for about 150 Large rats...100 Small Rats...and 100 or so mixed weanlings. I would need this quantity every month or so. I would like to pick-up in southern Ca. I have researched the classifieds and book recourses so if your suggestions are "check the classifieds" please disregard posting them. However if you know of someone or are someone who is looking for a steady reliable client who will drive to you and pay CASH...please post with any suggestions you have! Thanks for your time!

Let me see if I can talk to a few people and see if they can come up with something. I grew up my whole life in LA and San Diego so maybe a friend of a friend might know. I am assuming you want all live, right? Just out of curiosity, are you trying to get a breeder group established and need the XXXX amount to get your group to take off and to increase your feed stock that needs to be available as you need them?
Hey when I get this information I'll email you with the ph numbers and/or address..

No, I really don't want to breed rats unless I have the right facility to do so. Years ago I did it to sustain my small collection and they stink! Now with my collection size I would neeed way too many breeders to sustain my collecton. As far as live rats...I would rather have frozen, however, if live is all I can get I can euthanize them myself. I euthanize all my feeder rabbits with CO2 before freezing. Thanks for the help...I'll watch for your e-mail!

Brian Smith lives in Southern California. He's a python breeder and posts here in the retic room. You might want to send him an email and ask for suggestions. He keeps his own colonies going to feed his reptiles but since he's been in Southern Calfornia for a while, he may know what direction to point you in. Good luck!

I hopped on this forum because a friend of mine has 10 to 14,000 frozen rats. He told me to see where he could get rid of them at. If you know anyone that could use that kind of quantity, let me know. He has 7 chest freezers full and said theirs about 2000 in each freezer.

Where in CA?? I'm in California too, that's why I need to know. If he's close, I'd like to drive over and get some rats.
