Perch Q's

roocat71 Jul 31, 2006 08:26 AM

Howdy,

I have recently acquired a GTP and I need to make a couple perches for the enclosure I am getting for it. I went out in the woods and found some nice fallen wood which should work well.

My 2 questions are ….

Can I seal the wood with a water based sealant? This wood will just absorb water from misting and get soggy and rot after time.

How large in diameter should the perches be? About the same girth as the snake?

Thanks.

There is a nice product out there called Polycrilic. It is in a blue-green sparay can with a black top. 3 coats should do nicely. And yes the perch size should be the girth or just a bit bigger.

I use branches off my sycamore tree just as they are and haven't had a problem with rotting or anything even after almost a year.

Thanks, that's the same stuff I used on my chameleon cage.
