Gravid females and husbandryQ's

chico32826 Jul 31, 2006 11:18 AM

Hello,
can some one with lots of knowledge on Collard husbansdry post their vast knowledge in reply to this? I've searched the net and this site for info but can't find any. What substrate should you use, what temp should they be at, can the eggs be put in a plastic container with a mesh screen top with a moist vermiculite substrate? I have lots of various reptiles and it's seeming more and more like the husbandry for each different one is basically the same. Temp around 85% with vermiculite substrate and a screen top for fresh air flow. Anywyas, if I'm missing anything please post! Thanks in advance.

Also should the eggs be seperated from the mother or left with the mother until they hatch, from what I've read Collards will eat baby lizards so I see can see how the eggs should be seperated from the mother.

That is an awesome site, thank you very much! and thanks for the welcome. I was going to buy a very gravid female i saw in the kingsnake ads, but when i called the seller he said she had just laid the eggs, but I found some other very beautiful collareds and will be getting one either within the next couple days or at the big Daytona reptile expo in a few weeks.

Thanks for the kind words That's really COOL your going to get some collareds at the show, better that you will be able to actually see them also.

You won't be sorry, they are a fun, friendly(if handled) and entertaining lil lizard pet. Everyone here just LOVES them.
I have so many they NOW take care of me and my husband, hahahaahaa LOL

Really though you made a wise choice. Can't wait to see your new scaly pals. Pics are a MUST around here, we really enjoy them also.

Enjoy the forum, a bit slow right now but a NICE bunch
