A Corn Snake Story..............

APLAXAR Jul 31, 2006 12:30 PM

ovet the past year i have moved from vermont to colorado and back to vermont, while in colorado i acquired a pair of corn snakes, a snow female and a sunglow male, i decided that i would try and breed them and raise some funds up to put back into my hobby of snake keeping, i was extremely late at hibernating them, i put them in feb 1 and took them out the second to last week of march when i could keep the temp stable anymore, i hasd them breeding right befre the second week of april, my girlfreind and i decided that we wanted to moe back to the great state of vermont, so we packed up and headed back around may22nd. the day before we left the snow had her pre lay shed, the way we were traveling back to vermont was in the cab of an 18 wheeler. i know that it was more than possible for the eggs to get layed on the road back to VT. the truck we were in was actaully very nice, it is called a condo cab because it has a top and bottom bunk with a fridge and a sink, needless to say i had all my snakes with me in the cab of the truck, and if needed i could plug in an incubator in the truck itself, obviously not the best of situations to have a grvid snake in but if need to could make something work. we got back to vermont in four days and still no eggs, we lived at my girlfriends moms house for about a week and 1/2 and the eggs were layed there, we eventually moved into a freinds house that was terrified of snakes but i told them that it can guaruntee that the eggs wouldnt hatch while we were living there, all the other snakes were being babysat by another freind, in that time i battled humidity issues, too little too much and of course MOLD. in that time also the sun glow passed away, it was just kind of one of those freak things that happen. no explination just died. my girlfriend and i moved into our apartment about two weeks ago and the eggs seemed to still be doing fine, on saturday it was exactly 60 days since they were put in the incubator and to my suprise i checked the eggs like i do everynight before bed and i saw a little pink head pipping. since then more and more snakes have been pipping, so far i have had snows and what seem to look like albino but with reduced coloration in the tails, i am going to wait till their first shed and get some weight on the to determine what they are but i just wanted to share that story

being that i just moved i dont have my PC set up yet so pictures will have to come at a later date, but i will be sure to post the ones i am taking and plan to take. thanks for reading about my trying two months of moving and have a gravid snake and them the eggs

>>well Adam it sucks that you lost the sunglow but it's pretty good, through all the traveling and moving, that things still worked out and you have hatchlings pipping.
They should be tough little buggers.
Good luck with them and keep us posted
