JCP OR BOA???

bpkid Jul 31, 2006 01:33 PM

I have 1.1 ball pythons and I have done an extensive amount of research on both Boa Constrictor Imperator and Jungle Carpet Pythons. I've been fascinated by both for 2 years and I do plan on having both down the road. My question is, which should I get first? Which is the more rewarding snake to you guys? Size of an enclosure is not a problem. Food prices really isn't a problem for me either. I've kept corn snakes and kingsnakes, and a few lizards.

i wanted both also. i got a jcp because they are slendar and easier for one person to handle. plus i really didn't have the space for a boa. also jcp are arboreal and like to hang out on branches which mine does. hes has a great temperment. i can pick him up anytime (except after eating of course). mine is 7 foot male. here is a not to recent photo.

That's a tough call...those are my two favorite "big" snakes. Luckily, I have both now, but I bought the Boas first. The boas tend to have a calmer dispostion, especially as babies. I have a baby female JCP that is a fiesty B@#$%, but the male JCP is as calm as can be. I've never seen a boa with a bad attitude, yet. I think you'll be as happy with either, so I'd go with the first one you fall in love with in the classifieds or locally or the best deal...Good luck!

well in my opinion its definately a toss up. boas are larger where as jcp can be tempermental. i think that boas make a better pet where as (in my opinion) jcp are a lot better looking and a more rewarding snake to own. there are to many factors to take into account and in the end it comes down to what you want.

Are you kidding? I would rather have a dead carpet python than a live boa.

I am sorta joking....maybe not a dead carpet, but any carpet is better than a boa.

A JCP an IJ, or a Coastal are sooo much cooler than a Boa. I have had both and almost everyone knows what a boa is, not everyone has seen a Carpet Python. If you like the size of the Boa then the Coastal might be better.
-Just my two cents.

PS: Boas don’t come in yellow!

well, if you could only have one, which would you buy? buy that one.

Did you not read the above posts? Boas are gay ("not that there is anything wrong with that"-lol)- Just kidding with ya...

Seriously, go ask on the boa forum and you will get the opposite responses I am sure.

In all seriousness...I have had both. I have precisely zero boas now. Don't plan on adding any either.

I think carpets are more "trustworthy", all of my boa bites have been "from out of no where". With a Carpet, it will usually let you know how it feels earlier.
