i have spent some time looking around at ways to humidify my juvenile redfoot's enclosure. since moving from chicago to st. louis our air conditioning zaps whatever humidity is left in the enclosure from spraying within a few minutes.

i looked into several solutions, electric monitored sprayers, foggers, and bubble humidifiers. They main problems with these are as follows:

-the electric monitored sprayers are well....expensive, maybe too much so for an amateur hobbiest.

-foggers were also a little pricey (not bad though), the main problem i found with those is that most had to sit in atleast 2 inches of water. concerns here ofcourse are small torts drowning in deep water dishes, and you would need a rather large amount of water to keep the fogger going. another problem is that most of the foggers had no sort of timing mechanism.

-bubble hummidifiers are great in concept...they work by using an air pump to force air into a water filled container, the water bubbles therefore forcing humid air through a tank into the enclosure. the problem here is you absolutely need to have a covered enclosure, and well lets face it....most of us dont have an entirely covered enclosure.

so the solution to all of this that i have found is a product called Mist'r Lizard by Esskay. you can even buy them at petsmart:

http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCTprd_id=845524441815003&FOLDERfolder_id=282574488341699&ASSORTMENTast_id=2534374302023694&bmUID=1151286591752

they basically work by pumping and building up pressure in a litre sized container, and forcing it out as a mist (you can also set them on a drip function). You only have to pump it about 10 times for it to drain out about half the bottle in a matter of 20 minutes. I emptied the entire bottle (2 seperate pumpings) and my tank stayed around 75% for the rest of the day. And hey, it beats hand spraying every hour every day. And for 20 bucks, you really cant beat it.

just thought i would give my two cents, hope this helps somebody out there.
