legality question

koreaAF_Guy Jul 31, 2006 09:32 PM

just wondering if its legal to keep rattlesnakes in phoenix arizona, and if it is do you require a permit to do so. I have one and ill be moving there in about a year, so im just trying to plan ahead. ive seen lots of mixed responses to this, so im just wondering. ive heard that if they're for educational purposes its ok, so im wondering what exactly that means, if i show it to my friends and tell them if they see one walk the other way is that educational? thanks for any help

Call Arizona Fish & Game and Phoenix Animal Control and ask them. Better now than later!

It is OK to keep any of the non protected native species. You need a valid hunting license to collect them.
However, it is not OK to import any venomous reptile into Az. So the rattler you now have in your possession will not be legal to bring with you should you come.

well, the one i have is western d.back, so i guess i could get the hunting permit, and say i caught it. i e-mailed them, and they said since im military, the 6 month residency requirement is waived, thanks for your help.

You're welcome. Be advised though, when they say it is illegal to import venomous reptiles into the state, that goes for species that are indigenous as well....like your D'back.
Thanks for your service.
Cheers, Bill

Hate to burst your bubble but in all likely hood the AZFG has read your message above. They read these forums and gather ALOT of information about the hobby and its players. Dont try to pull a fast one, they wont tolerate it, just collect yourself another atrox when you get to AZ. They are as common as dirt and easy to find.
