First shed pics, Kansas holbrooki

mattbrock Jul 31, 2006 10:15 PM

Many of you remember I recently took a trip out to Kansas to do a little field herping. Well the trip was incredible! We ended up bringing a splendid holbrooki specimen back, and she happened to be gravid. She layed a gorgeous clutch of 12 eggs, to which 11 healthy babies hatched. They have now all shed and a few of them took f/t pinks tonight! What a relief that is. I'm sure most of you that have ever worked with holbrooki are aware of their natural tendencies to ground skinks and ringnecks..lol. I offered four of them pinks tonight, came back and hour later and they were all gone. So maybe the rest will follow in their steps tomorrow. For the time being here are a few pics to show.

Two males....

Two females....

Thanks Kieth! Here is a pic of mom a few days before she layed.

Gosh, that looks familiar. Exactly how my guy looked back on Feb 16th of this year when i got him. maybe a little bigger. he was a late '05 hatch.

Matt, how many days did it take until they hatched?

Thanks

Kerby...

Kerby, I manually pipped one egg on day 48. He quickly made his exit into the new world so I figured I would pip them all. Within the next 24 hours they were all out. So they all hatched in 48-50 days.

Awesome, glad to hear you have some good eaters. Many of the ones I produced here are feeding but none ate for weeks after their first shed. The snakes from the first clutches are getting a little size too them now, always fun to watch em grow

Several more are eating as I type this. This is the very first time I have had a clutch of holbrooki where the first feeding attempt resulted in so much success. I am very blessed.
