Possible vitamin shortage

JohnTravis Jul 31, 2006 11:16 PM

I have been reading the posts and have realized my dragon may be suffering from MBD? think that is what i read earlier. The problem is this has happened to me before and my dragon saw a vet the next day and was fine. Since then i have gotten two new dragons to add to my family. One of them Trixie is have a muscle spasm. little seizure problem. It started today. The sister in her cage is showing no signs of the same problem. and before i come under fire i have dusted the crickets i feed them no less then 3-4 times a week and they eat 15-20 lg. crickets each. So what can i do right now to stop the seizures.

MBD is usually and mostly caused by not enough vitamin D3 with is produced through UVB rays. hence why you need UVB light. make sure you have a good UVB source, reptisun 10.0 is my choice. dragons need to be within 12-15 inches of that light. the box says 20 but closer is better, i dont take chances.

spasms and seizures like you are describing are usually caused by feeding prey that is too big. prey should be the size of the space between your dragons eyes. this also could be caused by feeding too many mealworms, superworms, and other hard shelled/skin insects.

id seperate the one with the problem, and monitor him/her closely. you can buy liquid calcium from most pet stores. a drop on their insects or from the vial itself will be fine. make sure you feed plenty of greens too.
