leucistic questions

miba8055 Jul 31, 2006 11:50 PM

Why do people think the lucy is a dead end project? Why do people think the lucy gene will cover other genes? Is there proof to this with other animals or is it just a guess?

Regards,
Mike

Lucy removes all pattern and color, how do you combine that with a pattern or color???

Is this proven in other animals? Or is it your assumption that the lucy gene will take away other color? I'm trying to look up info on ball pythons or other animals to see if this is genetically proven or hearsay.
Let's say that one day someone produces a super black pastel mojave, do you think it will be all white and cover all the black or dark brown of the super blk pastel?

first off a super mojave type ball wouldn't be a true lucy so who knows how that one would work out but as lucy type animal means an absence of all pigment. so technically by definition all that can come from lucy projects are more lucy's. the main holding of their market is solely becoming present on the crosses made from the visible hets ie: the het ivory, lesser, mojo, and fire crosses which have really heated up their respective markets this year. all lucy's will hold value over time if anything on the merit of them being recessive which leads to lower production. but as a project run of their own its kind of a dead end street.

Albino versions of the Leucistic Texas Rats have been produced for years now.

They have red eyes, pink (instead of red) tongues, and an overall white colouration that is not much different from the normal Leucistics. Some of the Albino Leucys have a barely noticeable pink or cream tinge to their white colouration.

The breeder I bought my pair of Leucy Texas Rats from also produces the Albino version, and I've seen them side by side in person.
My opinion? The normal Leucys, with their dark eyes, are by far a more visually striking snake. The Albino Leucys look like my Blizzard Corns.

All that being said, could we be comparing apples to oranges? Afterall, the Leucy Texas Rats are WITHOUT A DOUBT leucistic, while the jury seems to still be deliberating as to which white Balls are actually Leucistic.
