gut loading recipe expiration date

anafranil Aug 01, 2006 03:26 AM

I prepare a gut loading mixture for my insects,it contains several wheats, germs, meals, nuts, dry milk,rice,etc.......
I was wondering since it is completely dry does it have an expiration date?I keep it in the fridge but sometimes it takes months for a single batch to be consumed.Should this be ok?
Also is the fridge necessary?

Your recipe for gut load seems very good and healthy. The only concern I have with this is, how long is this "mix" in the cage with the feeders? In my experience, I use two small portion cups, one at each end off the tank. I switch them out every other day. It seems time consuming but really not bad once you get it down. I do this due to the feeders either laying eggs or defecating in the food bowls. Also try soaking carrots in water for a few hours and use that for hydration and betta instead of the cricket gel that I find the feeders to defecate an extreme amount in.
