amelanistic question.

necroscollector Aug 01, 2006 01:27 PM

Ok I have a male amelanistic corn, I am looking for another corn to breed with him next year or so. What would be the best type to breed him with? (another amelanistic, snow, or etc....)

Like I said before I am new to the breeding and gentic game.

thanks
g

Since your snake only has one simple recessive genetic trait (that you know of) you're most likely offspring from a breeding are going to be either normals (het for amel) or more amels.

For example, if your male is not het for anything, breeding him to a color phase like a hypo, anery or ghost, would produce normal-appearing babies that would be het for whatever traits the parents are.

The same would be true if you bred your male to a non-amel striped or motley corn (assuming your corn is a normally-patterned amel).

If you'd like to make more amels, breeding it to another amel or snow will do that. Many snakes are het for anery, and maybe your male is too. Breeding it to a snow would then, in theory, give you the most possibilties for a variety of offspring. You'd get amels for sure, and possibly anerys and some snows.

Why do Reverse Okeetees hatchlings look so much like my orange candy cane, yet turn out so different? I see a slight bit more red in the saddles, but other then that they seem quite similarly colored!
