DAY 58!!!!!!!! And,,,,,,,,,,,,

HerpZillA Aug 01, 2006 02:44 PM

Nothing. Some eggs are HUGE. 2 are opaque and they look pink inside, which I would say is good, as they should be amels.

Ok, I've bred only a few things as far as herps. Ball pythons, boas, many jackson chams, a few Mad Day geckos etc. But I've had so much stuff in my life. 100's of lizards up to a 7'4" water monitor.

Why am I more excited over amel eggs than most other stuff?

Sounds corny!

Muhahahahhahaha

Dude, corn snake eggs take 60 days to hatch when incubated at a steady temperature of 82-84 degrees...they take longer to hatch if they're incubated at fluctuating temps. You got plenty O' time!

Yea, just want to see something. They are on teh flexwatt area, on top of a lid. It seems to keep it around 82. But Mil was clean my room a few times and knocked off teh sensor so I had some days it was hot. I was afraid that might had done them in. But it was some time ago. And the a few eggs look like they are going to exploid. I presume the collapse right before hatching like ball python eggs?

Millie is asking me everyday too. Funny how she is kind of getting into a few things.

DUDE! lol

Mine took 73 days, and the last egg 80 days. This has the potential to be a very long thread.

HerpZillA Aug 02, 2006 04:38 PM

WOW 80! I'll lose my mind!

God I love settingup straight lines.

I know colubrids are not as critical for temps and there is variation, but 80 is long. Thats 33% over due.

Thanks

The moral of the story is 60 days is about the EARLIEST you can expect corn snake eggs to hatch. Heat tape does not work in the same way as an incubator does, and it is unlikely that it has provided a consistent incubation temperature. There's a record of a corn snake taking 120 days to hatch...did I mention that you have plenty O' time? And yeah, they typically "dent" a few days before hatching.

Not straight on FW. A little thermal mass between to buffer highs and lows. I check temps when biostat goes off, that should be the hottest, it is 84. just before stat comes on 81. A little variation with room temp, but AC is alwasy set at 70.

I just 1 hope they are good. 2 I really hope I get one good zigity zag.

tspuckler Aug 03, 2006 06:29 AM

Close, but no cigar. You wouldn't get that much temperature variation with a good incubation. In addition, an incubator consistantly heats the substrate, eggs and air in an enclosed, insulated space. If incubating with flexwatt worked the same as using an incubator, your eggs would have hatched by now.

I know of some corn breeders that just place the eggs in a warm place as colubrid eggs are pretty easy to hatch and can take some variation. And I never said I had the temp at teh exact setting. SO THERE. Just a nice warm spot, I knew would stay warm. I used one of my chinese food containers with peralite after the fly attack. Eggs seem very good. In fact I'm going to go check them.

And the incubators i've seen, heat from the top? Most people I talk to that hatch a lot of eggs, use a big stryo, glass top and a piece of flexwatt buried in substrate, connected to 1 or 2 biostats. In series of course. By the way, hows the milk dud eggs?

Well the 80 day old isn't doing so well. He had some problems in there and will be lucky to live. The 6 that hatched in 73-74 days have all shed and eaten their first pink!
