How big do F Kenyans need to be to breed

raizincain76 Aug 02, 2006 07:25 AM

Just curious on how big people have been breeding thier Kenyan females at? I have a pair of 05 Bell line Albinos and the femlale is about 14" taking rat pinks. I think she will go this season. Also how many offspring do they have?

I recommend 2 solid year before females are bred. Most my females have their first litter around 20 inches and 2-3 year old.

Last year I had 2 females(both 2 years old) that bred for the first time. One had 7 babies and one have 9. This year those same 2 females with additional size and weight have 15 and 13 babies.

There is a strong correlation with health/size and number of babies.

In my opinion, I would wait another year, but it is up to you.

Thanks for the input everyone. I don't mind waiting. At least I know both my male and female will be huge in 07 from eating rats. Well huge as far sand boas go.
Thanks again.

I agree with Chris entirely. All of my breeder females are over 22". At 14" your female probably wouldn't breed. If she does become gravid, it would probably be unhealthy for her and there would be a higher risk of slugs. I would advise giving her another year to grow before trying to breed her. Have another 20 years for her to breed.

i have a female who was very under fed her first 2 years and after i got her she didnt seem to grow much. she is now about 5 years old 160 grams and about 17-18 inches long. this year she appeared to ovulate but i did not introduce her to my male because of her size and he is only a year old 12 inches and 80 grams. do you feel if i can get her to 200 grams by next year it would be safe to breed her? in the last year she has grown quite abit after switching food suppliers, she has probaly grown 2 inches and 50 grams in the last 9 months.
thanks for any replies

If she has put on around 50 grams in the last nine months, I have little doubt she'll be breedable next year. With her age and potential size, I think it would definitely be safe. It would probably end up as a case of either she breeds safely or she won't breed at all.
