Holbrooki mutts......more '06 babies

mattbrock Aug 02, 2006 10:57 AM

The whole mutt thing is kinda a joke, but many of you know I'm more or less a purist. Let me define that by saying I only breed locale type to locale type. That's as simple as I can put it. Don't ask me why, it's just the way I like it.

But that's beside the point. These are a few '06 holbrooki I picked up from a good friend of mine that has helped me collect a few of the locales I have. He bred a large Acadia, LA male to a very young CH(produced by me) Oktibbeha, MS female. Their ranges are seperated by the MS River and over 400 miles, so I wouldn't have bred them together myself, BUT they looked so dang good I had to pick up two pairs. So in the future I may produce some speckled mutts for you guys from these pairs....lol. They have a huge degree of diversity, and I can not get over their huge size. They are a good 2-3" longer than any I've ever hatched. None of them have shed but I'll get up new pics when they do. Maybe this will hold you all over.

because the w/c parents are from 400 miles apart, that doesnt make sense???you do understand how large holbrooki's range is huh?purist or not that just doesnt for the life of me make any sense to label them as mutts???!?,,,congrats on some nice lookin nonlocale spex, that will probably blow away your locale specific spex in everyway, good luck w/them and post pics of both(locale and non) as they grow,,,,,,thomas davis

Thomas, the mutt comment is more or less a joke....lol.

But going back to my style of breeding, I have no issues at all breeding animals from one end of a species range to one at the other end, be it 10 miles, or 1,000. I just choose to personally focus on animals collected within a mile or so of eachother. Half the fun is the actual field herping, collection, founding your own lines, etc......but I also like to keep the distinct appearances of those locales seperate. That's why I do it. The kings I catch in my backyard look NOTHING like the kings I catch less than 100 miles from here, and I like to keep it that way, if you know what I mean.
