Not the best time of year and assume your attention will be in camp and above, but...the road from Lone Pine around the east side of Owens Lake (to Olancha and/or Darwin/Death Valley) could prove productive. If you try it, tank up at either end; its remote.

One other thought...if you are returning south on 395, the road from 395 near Pearsonville to Kennedy Meadows aka, 9 Mile Canyon, can be very busy herpwise. One starts with sidewinders and geckos at the bottom and goes to kings and crots near the top. In any event, have fun.

Whitney Portal is an awesome place and a fantastic place to see herps. Whitney Portal Road can be product during the day and night. However, like others have stated, night driving is sad this time of year and I would not waste time. During the day I have seen various species of lizards including Desert Spiny, Leopard, and Coachwhip. During the heat of the day stay in the elevated mountains and search creeks for sagebrush lizards, garter Snakes and whipsnakes while you’re fishing. You’ll have a fantastic time, and be sure to take pictures.
