For Joel R. And CheriS -

Beardie_br0z Aug 03, 2003 02:46 PM

Joel,

I just lost the post i typed which was long so ill shorten it lol. The cage is great , no problems at all. My male ( 12Months Old ) Is A Red and My Female ( 14months old ) has a normal coloration.

For Cheri,

I totally agree with what you said. I never thought about that brumation. Im gonna have to learn from my mistakes and hopefully never make this mistake again. I hope my female gets to sleep through brumation. What you said is totally true and will help me in the future. As for when you said how did i see the female struggle. Long story short - I watched , my stepfather told me to leave them be as they will be fine.. I went upstairs... came back down after an hour our so and then i saw the male trying to breed again and the female struggling which odviously didnt want to breed.

Thanks for your help,
Joey

P.S - Joel Or Cheri - Anymore Questions feel free to post.

I made a mistakea bout the age.. i personally thought they were 16 and 18months but then my brother said what are you talking about. I thought about it and the male is probally 12-13months and the female 14-15 months.

Thanks Again,
Joey

Do you have to use smaller wattage bulbs on the upper levels or does that space gap between the ceiling of the lower cage and the floor of the next, help with the heat rising into the upper cages?

Thanks.

And I am glad you are hearing and thinking about these things now.

For future information, a male should not be left with in with a single female, they will bother her to much with constant attempts at breeding. This stresses them out and can jeopardize their health, something you will want to avoid, especially if the female becomes gravid. The recommeded ratio to keep a male with females is 1 male to three females in a tank, and even then the male might have to be removed at times.

Even when the female is not mature enough the male will continue to try and mate, becoming more aggessive and its not worth the risk to her.

Hopefully they did not breed, or if they did it will not take, she really needs more time to put on weight and fat pads to support being gravid and laying.

Give her the fall and winter to grow, rest and be ready for a full season of breeding, the babies and her will be better for it.
