I Am Such A Sucker (The Sequel)

lizard_lover Aug 02, 2006 08:29 PM

I went to the petstore to buy critter food this afternoon, and I saw these guys.

Darnit--I had NO intention of getting any more lizards! My daughter cried over the thought of leaving them there, and frankly, I understood. One of the boys looks okay, but the other does not. So here is the first "Before" picture.

Yay, that little chap does not look right at all, and I'm one of the newest here. At least he has all his fingers and toes....and at least he is not going to be poked and prodded by someone who thinks he is perfectly healthy. Go you....

Maybe you should mail order your reptile supplies in a bid to keep your collection at it's current size, lol. I took your advice and stayed away from the herp exhibition, but good luck with the newbies, post their names when they get em and keep the pics a coming !!

That's a good idea to order my reptile supplies through the mail. Actually, that's usually what I do. Yesterday I was shopping for cat supplies. That's a little different because the shipping costs are much greater. Still, I did what you recommended, more or less. I told the pet store owner that I wasn't coming back. I don't like the way they treat me, and more importantly, I don't like the way they "care" for their animals. Get this--these two lizards were in a cage with no light and no HEAT for TWO WEEKS before I found them! It's amazing the one looks as good as he does. It stresses me so much to see animals being neglected like that, I simply can't, for the sake of my sanity, walk through those doors anymore. The last thing I needed was two more lizards, but then again, the last thing THEY needed was to spend another day in that prison.

Okay, I'm off my soapbox now.

P.S. I am going to get all my future supplies from a store where the only animals they sell are fish and mice. So there!

does well Elan Always concerns ya when you find them in this condition. I just got a female last week, "Pawneee" that has her spine bone showing , back legs and tail look like that guy. And shes so pretty, sweet lil thing.

We always see the FAT , healthy version in our minds eye, hunh kido, LOL

Best wishes with your new scaly kids. Hey how are the puddy tats?

I really like Pawnee. I don't know how you do it, Eve, but you always seem to find the girls with the sweetest faces. I'll bet this little one is going to be gorgeous when you get some weight on her.

The puddy tats are doing superbly. They will be six weeks old tomorrow, and they are the best form of therapy that ever was. No need for Prozac--all I ever need to do, no matter how stressed I might be, is sit down on the floor and watch those babies play. I recommend a litter of kittens for anyone

How are your pups?

it's nice to know your daughter has your heart i have my parents too. they sell lizards in the beachwear stores around here and soon i am going to do a little investigating and see if i can put an end to that practise. yeah, don't let someone with a masters degree get bored

i hope the little boys do well. but on a sad note, walter isn't much fatter than the boy in the second photo. that is why he is at the vet

Oh gosh, do I hope you can keep Walter alive. I couldn't sleep last night for thinking about all you've gone through with your lizards lately. Well, I eventually fell asleep, but not for a while.

I hope you'll be able to get those stores to stop selling lizards. I have been entertaining that same idea with this pet shop where these two boys came from. If there were a local ASPCA, they'd be history. As it is, I don't know if there is any agency in Tuscaloosa with the power to shut them down. It's just sickening.
