Many a false step is made from standing still.

BackBeat Aug 02, 2006 09:54 PM

....that the overwhelming majority of those sharks are caught for their fins only, to make shark fin soup, with the rest of the carcass being thrown back in the water as 'waste'.

Sheesh.

And we (humans) claim to be the most evolved species on the planet? That's laughable.

What other species blatantly destroys/obliterates its own environment in the pursuit of survival????

Lots of species destroy their own habitat in persuit of survival.... you ever heard of a cloud of locusts? Essentially every species will do what it must to survive. But only humans will do so gratuitously.

but your point is still made.

Here I am with about a hundred or so of these killers and right after this picture was taken I dove in and single handedly killed all of them with my bare hands. Hey...it was either me or them...

Yes, Matt...I hate you!!!
!

The only swarm of sharks we get are the Bull sharks and I don't think jumping into the center is the best idea...

But I have swam with sharks as you know....I still love the big grey shape that was out there as I swam around in the chum slick...

That made me stop and think for just a moment....

Then back to trying to end my cruel life...as normal no takers... so much for the "Man Eaters".

I have seen the video of them cutting the fins off and throwing them back... the divers follow the poor sharks as the twirl down into the depths...

How can we say that man has a SOUL???

That was long ago...but remember the chum slick two years ago in the Bahamas? Catching yellowtails and then it stops all of the sudden and I say there is a shark down there. You put on a mask and fins and proceed to jump in with a 10' Great Hammerhead, and swim after it no less? Lucky to be here...you are.

chris61988kb Aug 03, 2006 12:15 PM

haha i love when this topic comes up, not sharks, but in general, and its always someone saying how its cruel how we kill one certain animal, and heres where i go on, oh so it isnt cruel that we kill chickens and cows and turkeys and all those animals we eat, i mean hey they are killing the sharks for shark soup and their fins, we kill chickens for chicken soup and all that good stuff but no one mentions how its cruel we do that to those animals, another thing, we kill mice and rats and rabbits to feed to our snakes, either they are tossed in live and strangled and mangled to death or we gas them, thats cruel.

DEAL WITH IT

gabonica2977 Aug 03, 2006 12:41 PM

thats the most ignorant response ive heard in a long time. deal with it huh? id love one chance to DEAL WITH you. idiot.

I guess you will get bent when you read my post too.You could always join Greenpeace and help them save all the ocean creatures.

BackBeat Aug 03, 2006 02:32 PM

Last I checked, chicken farmers don't just cut the wings off of the chickens for 'Wing Night' and leave the rest of the carcass to rot.

TerryHeuring Aug 03, 2006 04:32 PM

And how many rats are you directly responsible for their deaths ? If you are going to be a tree hugger ,hug them all.

joshhutto Aug 03, 2006 04:42 PM

wow, it's amazing how many people are ok with the inhumane practices that go on in this world. Killing a rat to feed a snake is nothing like harvesting sharks just for their fins, or beating dogs to death with sticks in the streets. I'm pretty sure if there was an article posted somewhere about a group of people who just let rats out and shot them with sling-shots until they made a killing shot and just threw the rats away he'd be posting his disgust about that too.

I kind of didn't get the point of this tread.People kill sharks, chickens, cows, hogs, deer and each other. Its the circle of life.I am an avid shark fisherman but I release each and every one I catch. With the very few times I killed one for some of my friends to eat.I personally dont think any animal should be slaughtered for only one part of their anatomy.A lot of people fear sharks and gators and they are killed because of misunderstandings.I fear stupid people!!! These animals should not be killed because you dont understand them. They do not intentionally eat people because they taste good. Now I am responseable for the death of hundreds of thousands of pounds of fish.I used to fish for a living but if I know no one is going to eat a fish that I caught I would let it live its life free.

TerryHeuring Aug 03, 2006 07:43 PM

I work for free at the University of Alabama on a panel so that students can do research on animals. The animal rights groups are always trying to stop this practice. If someone wants a shark only for its fins then so be it.Ignorant people are the reason everything will be protected. We can all go out for a soy steak dinner and remember the good old days.Terry

We go snorkeling and kayacking every summer with the Leopard Sharks in La Jolla. They "look" like sharks, kind of grey and purple, and about 5 feet at the biggest. They are mellow, and just looking for a mate when they come here.

To kill anything without reason is a waste!! If they are going to kill the sharks, eat them, don't just torture them and throw them back in the water. Personally though I doubt they just rot, I'm sure they are eaten by other things in the ocean.

As for the dogs, it is disgusting that they think for a moment that they are curing anything by beating the dogs to death!! First if they want to cull the dogs to prevent rabies, do it humanely, my hubby pointed out it is a poverty ridden country they aren't going to spend $20 per animal to put it to sleep, how a bout a few bucks for ammunition to shoot it, I don't know what ammo for a gun costs but I'm sure for $20 they could humanely kill more than one animal. No animal should ever have to suffer like that.
