That egg looks like it was helped a little. Sometimes they will pip and hang out in the egg for a day or so, let them sometimes they need to rest, absorb yolk, or do whatever little monitors do.
Every monitor I have ever hatched has emerged from a slit and has never torn the egg in half. I could be wrong, please take this in the spirit intended.

agree with Rsg, let them emerge on their own accord. When you slit the egg, you stand a good chance of having the monitor rupturing its umbilical.
They do seem to have reason to emerge at a certain time. For instance, we will have some pip and sit in the eggs for a day or two. Then all of a sudden, they all or most, emerge all at the same time. Also as Rsg mentioned, they seem to have to slit the egg shell, before they can absorb the yolk. This is common with many reptiles. Cheers
I agree I may have been too eager!
5 out of 7 up and atom. I had one very tiny egg started shriveleing up? Premature baby maybe??
