new babies...please help!!

dragonlady1954 Aug 03, 2003 03:01 PM

My first clutch is hatching. we got 2 more this morning about 4:30 am, and another about 10:30 am. I have small square gladware containers in my incubator with vermiculite and I am on a schedule that every 4th day I spritz with lids with water to keep it moist. Well yesterday was the day so I spritzed. One of the babies that was born last night is very tiny and still had his egg sack attached. Because the vermiculite was damp it had stuck all over him. I took another gladware container, put damp paper towels in it, Then took the little guy put him in a very little bit of water to wash off the vermiculite and put him in the container with the paper towels and put him back in the incubator. Did I do the right thing?? He has lost part of the egg sack but it looks like there is still part of it attached. He looks so little and tired. How long will it take for the rest of the egg sack to absorb or come off. Sorry so long

Hey! I had a few babies do that to me as well. I just left them in the incubator and when they were out for a day or two they started moving around and i guess they drug what was left over off. They were healthy and started feeding just like the other ones. It did seem to take them a little longer to start moving around good though. It should be fine.

Good luck,
Robert

Yes it is my first time and I can't believe how exciting it is. I don't have a digital camera but I will try to get some pics as soon as I can. I just checked on the eggs and there is another with his little head sticking out sleeping!!

What colors or phases did you cross? Or are they just normals?

nate

The female is a sandfire I think but the male is just normal. But they are still cute. The one that just had his head sticking out is all the way out now. I have 5 more that are on their way.
