Hi back at ya!
Yes I keep scalaris, have done for a while now, my favourite species by far. The adult you have in the picture, is that a female? How old, I'm guessing 3-4yrs? Very curious, it's most unusual for 'mature' adults to still retain their juvenile patterning. Usually after around 4-6 yrs all traces of this have disappeared. The only reports I've heard of specimens that have some 'ladder rungs' left as mature adults have been female. I've only heard of 4 such snakes too. So that's why I'm interested!
Amongst my scalaris group, I had several 14yr olds, one of which retained her partial juvenile patterning, now unfortunetly passed on, a victim of a fire.

Another 14yr old, this time with the completed ontogenetic shift, the more usual appearance.

This one was a four (ish year old one... also now deceased due to the fire.

I unfortunately lost most of my scalaris due to a small fire earlier this year, I have no doubt they would have bred. I'm gutted but your post has lifted my spirits somewhat. Glad to see that people are still breeding this spirited snake.
Kind regards and best wishes, Dev.

Hi Dev
The animal on the picture is one of my males - i have 2,1 adults - which are as you say 3-4 years old.
This picture is the female laying eggs
I will post pictures of the juvies as soon as possible.
Do you still have any of your animals left, are did they all perish?

Hi Jan,
I have one 14yr old female left. I also have another female hatchling ('06) on the way. I'll slowly get back up to some numbers hopefully. I did have another four year old male that wasn't in that room but I gave him away... at that time I thought I was going to pass all my animals on to people I know but thought better of it.

Many apologies, I forgot to say I look forward to the pix of the little ones! Best of luck.
Colubridman, they are a wonderful species if somewhat hissy at times. As they say, spirited. I wish you sucess on sourcing some.
Kind regards, Dev.

Yes I do! Thanks very much for sharing Jan. Brings back happy memories... I'll definitely be breeding them again, once I manage to build the group in the future. Lovely babies, best of luck with them all.
Thank you for putting a smile on my face.
Kind regards, Dev.
