new tank adventure

slapnutz Aug 03, 2006 12:52 PM

so i finally wnt and got the 125 gal tank from my friend.
man, is it huge!! 72"x18"x18" hehe i got rid of the love seat to fit it in my apt.

anyhow...the frogs i am going to get are leucs.

so my problem is...how do i set this tank up?

i org thought of makign a false bottom using 6" tall 2 ft long planter boxes (4 of them 2x2) to dreate a false bottom on the left of the tank and conseal teh pots with gravel so you cant see them looking at the tank and then leave teh other 2 feet of tank on teh right open for a tropical lagoon with some tetras and live plants and i was also thinking about makign a stream to run through teh land area and empty back into the lagoon.

sounds great to me but i am wondering if the iedea is better than the application? will i just be spending time and money to make someting that looks like crap and wont function well at all...?!?!

my other option is to just plant the whole tank and create a lonad locked water feature like a spring or something....?

moeny isnt an option but time kinda is since i go back to work next on the 14th. i'm a teacher. money sinst really a problem cuz i want this to turn out greta so i stashed money aside to make sur ethat happens....

i guess i just need help with my idea...shoudl i go for teh combo or fully planted tank?

thanks,

slappy

on a smaller tank? Cause it sure is easier to fix smaller tank and get the whole idea as perfect as possible before you go into such a huge tank. Kind of like learning to add single digit numbers before you go into double digit numbers and the whole carrying concept.

i have created a few very nice vivs but never created a true combo of a water and land.

in fact i decided to scrap the idea and plant the whole tank.
i did how ever come up with a great idea of a wet wall inthe middle of the tank. im placing a buring source of water and i have it under a large saucer filled with gravel and then some water plants such as java moss and others..but there will be a pump in the buried sump that will pump water up to a large piece of wood. the water will flow down teh wood and into teh gravel in teh saucer..then it will trickle down into teh sump and get pumped back out...kinda like a spring in teh middle of a forest. the idea in my head looks really good and so far it is coming together nicely...but i need ot get a diff size container to hold teh water becasue teh one i have will be too tall....

also, has anyone had any luck growing 'baby tears' in vivs?
i have tried 'irish moss' and 'sotch moss' but both of those rotted shortly after. maybe i just need ot stick with some kind of tropical moss...but really like how baby tears looks when its all clumped up and spread out of large areas.

ill post some pics as i progress.

by teh way here is a link to a store someone told me about in a different forum. great prices and fantastic plants!
