Some weird Boas I received....

mike_panic Aug 03, 2006 01:17 PM

a while back I posted a photo of a snake I received from Rich at reptile basics. The snake came from a litter where roughly half of the babies had a weird pattern and blackish eyes. The other half was completely normal looking. There are 3.4 of these weird looking snakes. Recently, Rich sent me the rest of the litter that I will house here so he can free up some time for his growing cage business(you should check out his awsome cages!) Three males were used(including an anery) to father this litter so its unknown who did the job. The mother of the litter had a completley normal litter the previous year when bred to a different male altogether with none of the babies resembling these in any way so if there is something going on, it was in one of the males used that fathered this litter. Do you guys think this could be something co dominant? I have one of the females ready to be bred this fall so I should have an idea in the spring if I am lucky enough. Thanks for your opinions. Here are some of the photos. They all have a weird stripe near the head and the pattern seems reduced. Some have it more than the others. Almost all of their eyes are black and all of their tails are distorted.

Those look like BCA meets BCI to my eyes.

The saddles, body girth and body coloration look extremely
Amarali, and the head shape and tail colors look ALL BCI...

none taken thats why I posted on the forum.

I agree they looked like Bolivian X BCI. They are nice looking animals no doubt.

I think the tails look too long to me to be BCA influenced.

I wouldnt rule out a BCC cross at all.

You have a point but I have seen Neos with that exact mix and they vary, having long and short tails.
THNX.

amarali. The saddle shape, broad head, thick body. Many traits can be found in other locales and subspecies as well.

Honestly, they look like a cross, hard to tell what just by looking at them though, and through pictures vs. in person.

Do you have pictures of the three possible sires?

mike_panic Aug 03, 2006 05:59 PM

I dont and I think two of them died. From what I was told about them from Rich was they were(aside from one being anery)normal looking columbians like the mother of the litter. And half of the babies were all "normal" looking columbians as well. Thats the only real reason I thought there could be a possibilty of something going on with them.

Good luck with them.

More than one male can sire the babies in a single litter. So there should be no surprise that some might look completely different from others. For instance, if a "Super" hypo male was bred to a normal female, and another normal male was used as well, you could easily pick the babies and assign them to one father or the other. The same clearly looks to be true here. I would highly suspect a Bolivian male fathered the babies you have shown assuming the Mother is a Colombian type animal. I'll bet they are generally on the feisty side too. Many Bolivians are. Just my two cents worth...

sounds possible. They are kittens though. The parents were all alleged to be normal columbians. I never saw them. I wish I had. Thanks for the input.

It is possible that only "Colombians" produced those kittens. They certainly look like there is Bolivian or possibly Brazilian blood in them, but they may not be the case at all. I would not rule out the possibility that they could be only Colombian. I have had widows peaks pop up on many Colombians. Those babies just have a lot of extra stuff going on beyond just widows peaks making them look like something else.
