Problem with shipping?

TonyZ Aug 03, 2006 11:03 PM

i have purchased some babies from a private breeder and they were shiped to me overnight, problem is they did not make it today and my local post office was very unhelpfull at finding them even more so when i told them it was valuable baby lizards. basically all the could tell me was that they were shiped and i could check in with them in the morning ( STUPID HEADS )sorry not sure if what im really thinking is allowed on the forum. now i know shiping is sressfull already but an extra day with the heat we have been having makes me scared for them, if by some chance they show up alive tommoro what is the best and fastest way to get them calmed and healthy
thanks for any tips you all might have
Tony

i would get in contact with the breeder ASAP and find out how they shipped them. most breeders, 99.9% of them, ship overnight by 1030am or 12 noon, or to a local pick up office. if the weather out your way is anything like mine, 105 degrees, id be worried. hopefully it all works out and they come in fine, keep your fingers crossed

Tony,
The breeder was uninformed if they ship overnight through the Post Office. The Post Office cannot guarantee overnight deliveries.

The main reason is that they do not have their own planes - so they sub-contract the overnight shipments to a carrier that does (FedEx, Airborn/DHL). If the flight is crowded with their own shipments, then the sub-contracted items stay behind.

This is nothing new - been going on for years and years. The post office sends it to the carrier, then the carrier sends it back to the post office - then it goes out for delivery to the recipient.

Peace of mind is a using an overnight service that can TRACK the shipment. The post office cannot track it if they don't have it in their possession!

I sure hope your babies make it.
The best thing upon arrival, is a lengthy luke-warm soaking. They can absorb moisture into their systems and then rest. Depending on the age - they may or may not eat for a bit. If they were exposed to a lot of heat, I would keep the basking lights off for a day or so.

Let us know what happens.
Morgana,
