Only thing locality wise I'll have will be the Northampton Co VA easterns but I've always loved the classis black and white desert phase Cal king. In my view it never needed any line breeding to become the high white variety in the first place but that's just my preference.
Tony,
Are you gonna have those babies there? If so, please email me.

I agree Tony. The sriped desert cal kings from the Borrgo area are a rarity in the wild. They only come from a small area and are not found anywhere else in Calif. While the normal striped and abberant (yellow stripes, bands) are found all over and are quite common. The are the desert stripes come from is a unique locale with montains and destern meeting. The kings are found right where these two areas collide. AKA Scissors crossing and surrounding areas. I forget the name of the creek but the area is small and these kings should have a much higher value in the hobbie.
First time I went to Scissors crossing I got ther at 3pm and right in the middle of the road (X crossing) was a desert striper waiting for me. Horridus and I went there a few years back and about the same time of day but found nothing. I think if I did not barade him back into the rental car he would still be there today. Searching. LOL!

There was a pair of adults right around that next bend!!!
Sorry for the above post?
whats up with PA?
Its called San Felipe creek. and it parallels S-2 going northwest. Not the road to Julian. This also occur there. I believe thats Banner grade. What was cool about that road is, you could find boas, B&W stripers and zonatas in one pass.
Those black&white stripers are also found in several other places that meet the same conditions you mentioned.
That is coastal pathways to the desert. Also key is access to raparian conditions.
The truth is, your only picking extremes, as in these areas, true black&whites are a distint minority. Most are banded and most have various degrees of brown and yellowish.
But Black&white stripers do naturally occur. But they are not normal, not even in their own area, they are a morph. Cheers
I have never found another striper since then ('82)but I have seen many many bandeds. Recently on another forum, where field herpers post pics, there seems to have been a resurgence of stripers found this year and last.
First one I ever saw in the wild was in 1968 I believe. It was on S-3 above the scissors just before the grade starts. There were three of us in the Scout and the one who spotted the snake was FR. It was a perfect Black and White striped. Over the years that I hunted out there I found several more much closer to the scissors and even one down through the narrows. All this Borrego talk is making this transplanted Californian in Texas homesick!!!!
