Blood boa question

jloganafcc Aug 04, 2006 08:43 AM

is the blood boa a locality boa, or is it a morph, or is it kinda both?

if it is a locality boa, are there people with pure bloodlines that havent been crossed into other bci morphs?

thanks

jon

Blood boas were discovered by Ron St. Pierre's wife who received shipments of unusual snakes from Central and South America. According to her she always had a tough time talking Ron into purchasing some of these "unusual snakes". Ron was into tegu's, but helped prove out the genetics of these boas. She also discovered the Columbian Motley boa. Bloods are from El Salvador. She found many other morphs some of which never made it as the "In" morph. Some of these other morphs may become popularized by boa breeders who choose to market them. Blood boas have been crossed with Hypos from Panama and Columbian boas. I'm sure they have been mixed with other localities too.

Bloods originated from El Salvador stock. It is a recessive mutation though.

Some breeders are working with pure El Salvador stock, others just keep them Central American. Other lines have Salmon/Colombian blood mixed in from the Bloody Salmon projects. Each seems to have its own look, which I think adds to the morph, and brings more potential. Personally I think it is good to invest in a little of each.
