Hi everyone!

Are there any herp Vets posting here? If so I would like to chat with you about FNAC procedures in reptiles (Snakes in particular) for a research paper.

Cheers

There anrn't any herp vets that post here that I know of, no regulars anyways. Are you interested in the procedure or the histo done with the sample?

Hi!

Actually I'm interested in the actual procedure, clinical recommendations and diagnostic procedures(infectious, neoplasia), smear fixation and used staining procedures/protocols.

Actually FNA does not provide you with histology, just scattered cells :P

histo wasn't the right word, I just use it for any slide type stuff that isn't one of the three main lab types (CBC, U/A, fecal). We send the real histo samples to the lab of course.

It really depends on what you want out of the sample. The procedure isn't much. A needle is directed into (usually a lump) the body to where the desired sample is. The syringe is drawn, pressure is released, and any cells are sprayed onto a slide. Usually an unstained or perhaps a wright stain are used to verify what's present. Gram stains and other specialized procedures can also be used to bring out different details in the cells.

FNA's are strickly a veterinary procedure and this is all FYI

Hi!

I work with Human pathology so I know the procedures for human subjects. I always loved reptiles so I got curious and decided to do a research paper on similar procedures on reptiles. Where I live (Portugal, SW Europe) there are no herp specialized vets so I decided to try Kingsnake for some info :P

P.S. If you need some staining protocols for fecals or other procedure feel free to contact me.

cheers
