I currently have a collection of hots. Of those, I keep a couple canebreaks. In a few weeks, I start graduate school in Texas. Canebreaks are a protected species in Texas. I really don't want to get rid of my long term canebreaks. I don't have the slightest idea of how to get permits for these snakes. Does anyone have any experience with getting permits in Texas? what is the easiest (and cheapest) way of doing this? I am not planning on doing research on my snakes, but someone told me that I might be able to get a permit if I said I was using the snakes for educational reasons. For example showing the snakes at local elementary schools to educate kids on the dangers of venomous snakes in the area. My wife will be a school teacher in Texas so that is possible. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this? Someone else told me that I shouldn't even worry about getting a permit, but I am not too keen on getting my snakes taken away from me by the state. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
