Locality cal kings - Carlsbad, CA

Kerby... Aug 04, 2006 12:59 PM

I've had a female for a couple of years now with nothing to match her up to although in 2004 I bred her to a Mendota (hypermelanistic), in 2005 I bred her to a Lavender, and this year I bred her to a Blizzard.

I just recently picked up 1.2 from the exact same spot, giving me 1.3 of locality Striped Carlsbad cal kings to breed next year.

A lot of people have been asking for this locale and I couldn't provide them in the past, but that has changed.

very nice cal king. i hope this little guy get that brown look to it

Most of the brownest cal kings are not that way as hatchlings. Some cal kings take up to a year before they start to show their true colors.

Some really white on babies turn to cream or even yellow.

And most of the "black" on cal kings turn to dark brown as adults.

All you have to do is take a cal king out into sunlight to help in seeing it's true color.

Very nice snakes. I really like the white flecking on the sides. It's pretty amazing how similar they all look... even for being from the same local.

Are there banded kings in the carlsbad area or is it mostly stripers?

Kerby... Aug 05, 2006 09:20 AM

A friend of mine caught these over a couple of years. I have seen pics on the other herp site of pics from this same board line and they are mostly striped and aberrant. There were some bandeds in this area as well.
