Hi all,
A few days ago I caught a large (30" ) female Eastern ribbon snake in my area (Western New York state). Sadly, I didn't have my camera so I couldn't get any pics, but her belly was entirely black. Her chin was white, but from her throat all the way down and up onto the sides was solid, JET black. She was beautiful, but knowing the area she was from to be one of the few locations around that still has a genetically viable ribbon snake population, I let her go. Hopefully I'll run into her again with a camera! I was wondering if this is a common genetic strain or a subspecies or nothing at all. Anybody know?
Thanks,
Mike
