Good question? Judging from the difference in behavior between the red and my red/blue cross, I have to wonder if mine was crossed with the blue from Hades. Tiki will be a year old in September and has some turquoise spots on top of it's head. The rest is pretty much the same as an Argentine B&W. Maybe the color comes in later. I have them housed outside for the summer and they are doing GREAT. If i ever figure out the technology I will post some pictures.

I hope this helps.

thats weird how big the difference is maybe it has something to do with diet

Maybe it's that blue light shining on the tegu??? Cynical but could be.

Well, I'm thinking the blue's were just a fluke, and Ron St. Pierre has been trying to breed the blue to get the bluest he can. I don't imagine there are a lot of blue's in the wild. It just depends on how dominant the "blue" gene is, which it seems it's quite recessive.

Yep, I asked how his was so blue and he said it was special lighting. Man I have to get some like that.

No way, are you serious???? Anyone wanna buy a blue tegu cheap???

Don't know if it will make a blue tegu - 'bluer' but in the reefkeeping hobby we use 03 Actinic blue lights to put a big punch in the blue portion of the spectrum. This type of light makes some corals flouresce, and fish with blue pigmentation almost appear to glow. I can only guess that it may have a similar blueing effect on a tegu, or almost any pale-scaled reptile. (Photoshop could probably do wonders for a blue tegu photo as well)

Thats a fake pic.. easy to spot photoshop work. I could turn that Tegu purple if I wanted to.

I learned not too long ago that lots of breeders and petshops will give the animals gatorade with food coloring in it to make them change colors. The gatorade works as an agent to make the skin receptive to the colors. I wonder what the effect would be on our Tegus? Maybe Kitty could be a black and purple one instead of B/W.

Still a pretty, pretty blue.

To me the photo looks like it's a poor exposure setting on a digital camera. My sony will do that if you set it for indoor lighting while shooting outside.
