How best to feed worms?!?

KWasser Aug 06, 2006 09:54 AM

I've got another question:

I've mostly been feeding my pacman some crickets, but have tried to feed it worms on occasion. If my frog is in the water dish I have in his cage, he'll usually eat the worms, (the twist around in the water, attracting his attention), but if I try and feed him on the ground inside his cage, the worm just burrows down out of sight, and my frog misses the worm completely. I've tried feeding my frog with tongs (with a worm at the end of the
tongs,) but it just doesn't seem to like me shaking anything in front of it's face. So that's why I just end up tossing the worms in just like I do with the crickets. What's the best way to feed worms?

Also, someone told me it's best to cut off the worms head before feeding it to the frog, because they bite, and I tried that once, but the worm just died, and since it wasn't moving on the ground in front of the pacman, the frog didn't eat it.

And are waxworms okay to feed them? Or should I only stick to meal worms?

I've been feeding waxworms to my Pacman for over a year..along with crickets , pinkies, fuzzies, butterworms, Goliath worms, super worms and live bearing fish like Mollies and Wags. I always cut the head off the superworms and goliaths so they don't bite him. It's not necessary with the waxworms. When Vern (Pacman) was a baby, I only fed crickets and waxworms which I would place in front of him. He ate them quickly. As he grew, I began feeding him from a tweezers so I always know how much he eats. I never leave live food in the tank...crickets bite.
Maybe if you let your Pacman get good and hungry you could hold a pinkie on a tweezers in front of him. As the pinkie squirms, your frog shoud go for it.
I have a new 6 weeks old Pacman that I have already started feeding from a tweezers. He readily takes waxworms but not cricktes at this time. I'll just keep working with him. It's the only chance you have to interact with these animals.
This is a picture of my newest Pacman. It's a little light, but I'm just learning with the camera.
Good Luck!
