1st clutch of Easterns hatching

Sean Aug 06, 2006 11:35 AM

My first set of eggs actually had one pip late Friday night and then this morning, several more heads were popping out. I can't really see what any of them look like yet but I'm hoping to get some wide banded ones. The father had real wide bands so....

BTW, the darkest egg started getting all moldy a while back and I figured it was a bad but left it in. Funny how it was the first egg to pip.

Thanks Zee! A few have come out and all but two of the eggs have pipped. Another clutch should hatch in a couple of weeks.

I've got 14 Virginia Beach, Va. Eastern eggs cookin' right now.
They should be hatching around Sept.3. I CAN'T wait to see those little noses poking out! Wish me luck!

Thanks Keith! Definitely a pair in there for ya! The Wakulla male's bands are are basically a tannish yellow. Pretty much the same color as in the pics.

good work they look great. i have seen healthy snakes hatching from some nasty eggs. congradulations on them. please post a pic of any wide bands.
thanks jason

Sean Aug 06, 2006 11:25 PM

Thanks Jason! I think even if the egg looks like it's turning colors, as long as it doesn't shrivel up it's probably fine. As long as it doesn't happen too early though.

No real wide banded ones yet but certainly nice looking Easterns with some lateral chain pattern going on. These guys will not sit still at all so photographing them is almost impossible.

Sean Aug 07, 2006 01:46 AM

It's interesting to see that most of these have no red coloration at all.

antelope Aug 07, 2006 08:59 PM

I love it how they almost all have a smiley face head pattern! #3's thin bands get my vote!, so far! Great job!

Nice Sean.
Mine had zero red at all. Lots of chain looks.
All in shed now.
You gonna make it to Daytona??
This one is just out of the egg and still a little "pinkish" but they all look good.
Good luck with yours.

Hey Mark, Not sure on Daytona yet. I'd like to make it over for at least a day but we'll see. How many Easterns did you get this year?

crimsonking Aug 07, 2006 10:40 AM

Just that one clutch of 12, Sean.
Hope you guys make the show.
Remind Pierson I'm pissed at him...he'll know why.

I'm a fool for interesting head patterns, and I like the sad face on the second pic. Very nice easterns.

Steve

Sean Aug 07, 2006 06:35 PM

I need to pay more attention to those head patterns. I didn't even notice that on the one you mentioned.

Sean Aug 07, 2006 06:34 PM

And two eggs are left which have yet to pip. Here's the 7th one of the bunch.

An attempt to show it's interesting side pattern.

And the 8th one is most likely a keeper as it's got the widest bands out of the clutch so far.

Sean those are very nice Eastern Kings.
