Yes, it's a good idea. While I was out in California last month, I noticed East Bay Vivarium was selling light bulb guards. I don't know what other suppliers carry them. But snakes can and do get burned.

wow fastest reply ever, thanks!
I was talking to a new snake friend I made and they recommended I get one so just though I'd check it out.
One more question while I'm here. My snake is ~29inches and is in a 1' x 2' tank, should she really be in a bigger one or will this do for another while?
is to take the width and the length of the tank and add them together. The sum should be more than the total length of the snake. So if she is in a tank that measures 12 inches by 24 inches, she should be less than 36 inches long. Of course, bigger would also be appreciated by the snake.
Another consideration is to consider how much of the cage the snake uses. If it is a sedentary type of snake, such as a ball python, it would need less size than a very active snake, such as a black racer. Luckily for us, cornsnakes are between those two levels of activity.
