cbreps Aug 06, 2006 12:51 PM

.........so there i was, the day before a huge storm a rollin in and a female Bolivian short tail on day 118 pos.....as the rain started to hit relieving days of brutal heat i thought it has to happen tonite. at midnite still no babies BUT she was finally moving around the cage.....at 4:20am we awoke to the full brunt of the storm and decided to sleep downstairs for fear of one of our trees crashing into our house. i decided to check and got to see the last 2 babies born! what a thrill! heres a horrible pic sorry, i will get some new ones up soon. there were 11 healthy babies 5.6 and 4 slugs. a few of the babies have a nice peach/pink coloring on their backs just forward of their tails in place of the gray base color. although it isnt as bright a few days later, hopefully its just as bright after they shed. thanks for looking, john yocum

Congrats! Its always amazing to get to see the birth. I remember how rare it was for people to see them and Steve and I have watched 75% of all our litters born. I guess its just luck but you know you never forget seeing it happen. congradulations! Awesome experiance huh!

Sincerely,
Rose Aguilar

have any problems getting them to breed?

Did you use more than one male?

i set up two pairs in two cages in late dec. (my group is 3.4) although i saw courting in both pairings the bigger but younger (4yr old) female did not become gravid. this female is 7-8 yrs old and this is her first litter. the male courted her constantly til march 29th, i did add 2 differnt males for a 3-5 day period in early march. i did not notice any aggressive combat per se, but did see the both males on her. i never saw copulation from any of the males. i love this species, heavy bodied, short(er) than some boas, great feeders and nice personalities, i have never had one hiss and strike (ok when they are babies they do, but they calm down soon enough). i have been told they are more "delicate" but i just keep them as i do any of my non-arboreal snakes (dumerils, nics, colombians, hogs, BP's). i will get individual pics of them as soon as they shed. thanks for looking, john yocum ZOO-OTICS

girl that almost died from constant regurges.

She was right at death's door so to speak. Her spine was jutting
out from her skin. I managed to nurse her back and now she is my
all time favorite.

None of mine have ever hissed, not even coming out of their
shipping boxes when I first got them.
