PLEASE...I NEED A LITTLE HELP

saiya Aug 07, 2006 02:38 PM

I have a couple questions about a BD enclosure. I have been told that u should have a baby dragon in a small tank such as a 20/30 gallon and switch to a bigger one later on as it grows. Like minimum 45 g breeder but more is appreciated if u have the space. I have also been told that you can have the baby in a 45 g tank and just put a divider in the tank and open it up more as it becomes needed? If u were to do the later of the too what kind of a divider should you use, and at what age should you open up the enclosure for more space. Which one of these is generally the best route to go, as so my future beardie can be comfortable without causing him/her any stress. I have been told so many things that iam becoming very confused about what to do. I want to figure this out before i buy my dragon. They were saying it will save on expense of having to keep buying different tanks/enclosures. Im not too worried about this at this time. Just want to do whats best for the animal. I have been getting the run around and really cant find anything on this topic. I have a bearded dragon book, caresheets nothing in either.
Thanks for your time

either way is fine. when i used dividers i went to Home depot and got pvc sheets cut to fit. you can use whatever you can find really as long as it stands up, is nontoxic, and is not see through. if using a glass cage, i reccomend lining the sides and back with white contact paper. duck brand non adhesive liner for the bottom.

go there for all your needs. veronica has done an excellent job researching and providing care sheets and nutrional facts for everyone.

Thanks for the help Is there any other places where I can buy this PVC sheeting. Do any reptile breeders or other places sell it. I plan to get a 50 gallon tank but at what age should I intend to give him/her more space?? Im pretty good with everything else...food wise, temperature and everything else. Oh also would you happen to know where I can buy a temperature gun??

make sure when buying a tank you get something wide and long, like the breeder style 40 gallon. they need as much ground space as possible. living space for an adult should be 4x2x2 feet. height can be adjusted though.

look in the classifieds under supplies for temp guns.

you can get pvc sheets at home depot or lowes most likely.

Ok great...but im not sure if its the same here. See Im in canada, so have checked multiple sites for this pvc sheet and im having a hard time locating appropriate item. Is there another type of material similar to that i could use instead. Also having the same problem with them temperature gun. I notice that its sometimes harder to find the things i need.

There are many substitutes you can use, Cloroplast (basically plastic cardboard), cardboard, foam core( you can find this at most craft/hobby stores and places like walmart, Zellers), opaque plexiglass, etc. Wood can be used too, just make sure it isn't really rough. Jiprock, masonite, malamine, can also be used, also, ceiling tiles too but be careful with dampness as these soak it up like a sponge and can mold if it remains wet. Even a sheet of cork (like that used for posting stuff on, or cork tiles) glued to plexiglass or other stiff material can be used as well. Pretty much any stiff opaque material you can get your hands on that isn't toxic. Styrofoam is fine too, just be careful it doesn't come hear the heat lamp, as it tends to have a low melting point and the fumes are toxic.

Not sure if Canadian stores cary the PVC sheets, but places to check are Home Depot, Home Hardware, Canadian Tire, any hardware store really. I think they use this stuff as molding or tub surrounds for bathroom fixtures as well, so places with bathroom fixtures may have it as well.
