nightcrawlers

buffysmom Aug 07, 2006 09:18 PM

Should I be gutloading the Canadian nightcrawlers I'm buying from Walmart for my herps? If so, do I keep them in the fridge while feeding, or take them out? If I take them out, how long do they need to be out before feeding them to my herps? Can they live at room temp for long? What should I be feeding them?

I've asked the same on other forums. Specifically for garter snakes. The responses I've recieved have been to just add calcium supplement onto the worms just before feeding them to the snakes. What herps are you feeding them to?

I really like the box turtles. I find them all the time where I live in Virginia.

Hi,
I buy worms for my turtles from Walmart, too. I keep them in the frig. until I am ready to use them. If you look in the sporting good area, you will find large canisters of worm food if you want to feed the worms. This is how fishermen keep worms in their worm bedding till ready to use. They would probably eat insect gut load powder, too. Skylarke

Thanks, I'll look for it.
Wiseman, I love my turtles! It'd be great if I lived where they roamed free! I grew up in N.W. Pennsylvania, but don't recall seeing them around, even though we had a woods in our back yard. Now I live in Utah, by the mountains. No turtles here.

I'd love to see it, but Yahoo won't let me. Says I'm not a registered member of your herp club group.
