The guy I bought then from does not recommend the use of Calci-sand, I would like to know why. I would also like to know if the problems are the same with the other brands. Thank you

main reason is sand can cause impaction in dragons of any size. if you are to use sand, use washed and sifted playsand available at home depot or lowes or any hardware store.

calci sand and repti cal sand also can cause build up of calcium and be a problem too. just dont use it. its also expensive and a waste of money.

best thing to use is duck brand non adhesive shelf liner. you can buy it at walmart. cheap, easy to clean, looks good and makes your dragons colors pop out

Oh, I didn't know that they could have too much calcium, you know I figured it would be good for them if digested. Ok well thank you for the info I just need one vaild reason outside of price not to try it. Thanks again

Calcium based sands do not digest in significant amounts to make them worth the cost. What they do cause is impaction, difficulties digestion (if enough of this stuff is injested, it actually nuetralizes stomach acids, which do make digestion much more difficult, though stomach acids are always in production so eventually, by the time the sand passes into the intestines, the acidity of the stomach is returned to normal levels), but calcium sand tends to clump up when it gets wet, again increasing chances of blockage.

Crushed walnut is also just as bad though for slightly different reasons. The rough edges can also damage the intestines, cause blockage as well and in the tank, harbour bacteria and mold if dampened at all. (ie misting cage, feces, spilled water dish, etc)
