What is the most $$$ you would spend on a Ball?

EmberBall Aug 03, 2003 07:10 PM

Let's assume you have a decent job, $40K-$50K a year, married but no kids, what is the most you would spend on a Ball Python?

Also, would you rather have a spider, clown male with het female, Mojave pair, or 2.6 albinos?

I would LOVE to be able to ATLEAST spend 15K on a beautiful Spider...I just Love those! I would love to see a cross between Spider and Lavendar Albino!!! AWESOME!!!!!!

I would spend a lot on them if I have very good job...on all the varietion. I want to get maybe retic or a Burmese, too. In addition, I would get other snakes, like the colubrid ( corn snakes, kingsnakes ), a lot of tarantulas, and some lizards...like the bearded dragons and monitors. My house would turn into a zoo, basically.

The zoo, I am working on it!!!! The "I would if my wife would let me" I would if my boyfriend would let me! The "$15,000 atr least" If I had the money I would HAPPILY give $20,000 for a nice Pied! It is worth more than that to me, even though the "market" may not agree with my, to hold a pied even once is worth ALOT to me, I want to own one SOOO bad!! Workin on it.

2.6 albinos.
money and pretty to look at MHO!
Besides 6 girls 5 eggs = 30 eggs.
@ 1 k each is nice return....
30 k a year is nice income. And MORE people can afford a 1k snake than a 8k snake.

Not too many Albino's going for $1,000 each(if you know of any, let me know). So more like $2,000(from what i see), so your looking at $60,000 a year. All for 8 Albino's costing maybe $15,000.

Not too bad... JohnZ

I think Rick was throwing out a lowball estimate for the possible price of albino's a couple/few years down the road.

Basically saying that "worst case scenario" IF albinos only sell for 1K each in a few years, and you only get 5 eggs from each female you still will be doing well for yourself.

At least that's how I read it.

In 1997 Pete offered me a male albino for 10k six years - 2500.
I would say closer to 1500. Who knows? Could be 800!!! Still good money for a snake.

The thing that terrifies me about a $15,000 purchase is that sometimes a seeming heathly snake can up and die on you, even with the proper husbandry, or might turn out infertile. Talk about heartbreaking!

ballboutique Aug 04, 2003 02:59 PM

YUP. I have a pair of 98 het pieds no pieds yet. Only two babies..66% babies in 2002. Four slugs this year.

Well RicK, since it dosen't look like there working out too well for you, I will take them off your hands and let you work on all your other projects! No but honestly, my birthday IS comming up soon! I would take them, the only time you will see a human face REALLY look like this >>> Color and all probably! I am willing to give collateral, or a lung if you need it! LOL I will pay you a small fee. Good luck with them!

you are right things do happen. in fact just the other day i lost one of my 100%het albino girls. no real outward sign other that a instant loss of movement in ter tail. had amn autopsy done and ther was a huge blood clot on her spine. i guess it is called a pulmonary embolism that just let go and she died within 5 hrs.so it does happen but sometimes you have to take some risks to gain.

If I got the money for the snake from breeding other snakes, I'd probably be willing to spend maybe $15k on one snake. However, if I had a job that paid $40k-$50k, and that was my sole source of funds for the snake, I think I'd only be willing to go up to $5k for one snake. I might be willing to diversify and buy a few snakes that would equal more than $5k though.
