Breeders: Palps vs. Trigs vs. Specs

toaster529 Aug 08, 2006 11:08 AM

Hi,

A few questions, preferrably for those of you who have bred palps, trigs and/or specs:

Which get bigger of the 3?

Which of the 3 breeds at the smallest size? (E.g. Which reaches sexual maturity first, in terms of size)

Is it true palps/trigs are solitary animals? Have you had a lot of issues w/ breeders fighting, when first getting acclimated to one another?

THX.

Well, I dont necessarily need to be a breeder in order to answer a couple of these questions....so here goes...

>>Which get bigger of the 3?

Specs get largest, then Trigs, then Palps. Although, typically you wont notice much if any size difference between the Palps and Trigs. The trigs, however, have been noted to get approx. a half foot larger.

This is the question that a breeder would need to answer....Sorry.

Palps and Trigs are quite solitary. They get very stressed out with additional cage mates (even if it is only a piece of driftwood..lol) and can lash out. However, if they are raised together, they are typically OK, as long as you provide enough room between them. I know that some people have been able to house their Trigs and/or palps with other species or with similar species, however, mine simply will not allow any other cage mates to share his space without going insane.

Hope this helps,

Chris
