sad beardie

kyotta Aug 08, 2006 01:52 PM

I have just recently purchased four beardies, two are mine and two are a friends whom doesnt have his stuff yet so I am just holding on to them for now...they came from a bunch of 17...one of them is not very active...you can only notice him breathing out of one side and it is quite qickly...he just lies there and does nothing, not even eat....We brought them home on sunday and sunday night he was like this but in the morning he was fine....yesterday monday he was fine all day and this morning he was the same...I am not sure if he just feels homesick or what..I was also thinking it could be that he was cold..the tank was at 95 when he was acting like this, but the other three are fine...it just comes and goes suddenly because last night he was so happy and was actin crazy....I am not sure if I am over reacting or what...I have a 100w bulb in there if I put a 150w would it be better for them...I am a first time owner so any help would be very much appreciated..
Thanks

With the 100 watt maybe youre enclosure is too big or youre light too far check the basking temp and make sure that the uv light is also over the basking area I have a 75 gallon tank and use a 150 watt mercury vapor about 18-20 inches away and a 150 watt ceramic heat emmiter about 16 inches away to reach the required daytime heat. Also since you have 4 in one enclosure they might be competing for basking space try to get your freind to take his home as soon as possible so that the weak one can have more oppurtunity to get basking time.
