Are there Super Ghosts in cornsnakes..

VK Aug 08, 2006 05:37 PM

or something alike? I got quite strange results from Ghost x Snow breeding: 4 Snows (that means that the female Ghost is het Amel to) , 1 Anery and 3 babies that look like something intermediate between Snow and Ghost. They have light cacao blotches and dark red, almost black eyes. What could they be?

Most likely lightly-colored ghosts.

As the other poster stated, they're ghosts. Most hatchling ghosts are much lighter than adults, and they can often have ruby eyes.

What they are NOT is ultramel anerys. (There's a group of people out there that tend to suddenly see 'ultramel' in anything with ruby eyes these days...) So why not? Because you got a plain anery in the clutch. Were the funny ghosts ultramel anerys, the ghost parent would've had to have been an ultramel anery as well. And an ultramel anery X snow would have produced all ultramel anerys and snows, and been incapable of producing regular anerys with that pairing.

I figure that to get some ghosts, the snow would have to be heterozygous hypomelanistic. To get some ultramel anerythristics, the ghost would have to be heterozygous ultra as well as hypomelanistic and anerythristic.

IMHO, a snow that is heterozygous hypomelanistic is more probable than a ghost that is heterozygous ultra.
